I think that’s lazy thinking.
6) I really want to be a lawyer, as I love debates and logic, but I don’t want to spend that much of my time working.
7) I never thought I’d be that into having children, but now I’m obsessed with pregnant women and can’t wait to be a mom.
8) I like to s-p-r-a-w-l.
9) I avoid pants when I can.
10) I love words. And vacations. And margaritas.
11) I strongly believe in treating people how you’d like to be treated.
12) I make it a point to be self-aware and as fair as possible.
13) I constantly edit myself as I talk and am therefore kinda verbose, but I strive for simplicity.
14) I think I’m pretty hot. Turns out that’s all it takes to make it true.
15) I take pride in a job well done.
16) I’m horrible at keeping in touch, but I’m extremely loyal.
17) I’m a dog person all the way.
18) I’ve been a vegetarian for 15 years and don’t regret a single day, but I loooooove cheese.
19) When I was a teenager I would hide in the bathroom reading books my parents didn’t approve of. Before that I read a lot of Babysitter’s Club and Nancy Drew.
20) I wasn’t allowed to watch Roseanne or MTV or the Simpsons as a child.
21) I was a very happy baby and am still generally positive and good-natured.
22) I do not take shit. From anyone. But I respect the upshot of diplomacy.
23) I do not get star-struck, am not easily embarrassed, and rarely feel self-conscious. I don’t think I’m better than anyone or that anyone is better than me.
24) I love knowing what vitamins I’m getting from food and what they do for me.
25) I love plants!
26) When I was about 6 or 7, my parents took me to t-ball sign-ups, but it turns out it’s only for boys. That did not go over well with my mom, who insisted they let me play anyway, and thus I became the only girl in the t-ball league. Ever.
27) I base all my decisions on whether or not I’ll be proud, ashamed, or ambivalent on my death bed.
28) I would give almost anything to read the Harry Potter series again for the first time. And to watch the Buffy series again for the first time too for that matter.
29) I was conceived in Australia, but my heart lives in Paris.
30) If there’s a word for it, there’s a perfect word.
31) I often forget that I’m a girl, and white. I wish I were fat and black and could sing like a goddess.

Quote of the Day

“To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.”

I Just Finished Harry Potter!

I just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! This was probably one of the best fiction series I’ve ever read — the last two might be some of the greatest fiction stories I’ve read on their own. I never thought I’d love Harry Potter this much, but it’s renewed my faith in excellent, uncontrived, no-pretenses, heart-racing, edge-sitting, fingernail-biting, holy-shit-what’s-going-to-happen-next writing. It’s dramatic, parabolic, and climactic, but what’s more is the way it’s written. The story itself is so exciting, but the words J.K. Rowling uses to tell it are equally amazing. She’s so descriptive without getting in the way of the action, and the diction and syntax are so sophisticated, without distracting or condescending. She uses exactly the right words — every time — paces the stories perfectly, and writes developed characters that, by the end, you feel you know personally. Seriously, anyone who still thinks that Harry Potter books are just for children (at one time, myself included) are, to their own detriment, holding themselves as readers to a literary standard Rowling has met and far surpassed. Bloody brilliant!

Me Likey

Bob Dylan
