I Just Finished Harry Potter!

I just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! This was probably one of the best fiction series I’ve ever read — the last two might be some of the greatest fiction stories I’ve read on their own. I never thought I’d love Harry Potter this much, but it’s renewed my faith in excellent, uncontrived, no-pretenses, heart-racing, edge-sitting, fingernail-biting, holy-shit-what’s-going-to-happen-next writing. It’s dramatic, parabolic, and climactic, but what’s more is the way it’s written. The story itself is so exciting, but the words J.K. Rowling uses to tell it are equally amazing. She’s so descriptive without getting in the way of the action, and the diction and syntax are so sophisticated, without distracting or condescending. She uses exactly the right words — every time — paces the stories perfectly, and writes developed characters that, by the end, you feel you know personally. Seriously, anyone who still thinks that Harry Potter books are just for children (at one time, myself included) are, to their own detriment, holding themselves as readers to a literary standard Rowling has met and far surpassed. Bloody brilliant!

Me Likey

Bob Dylan

Foundation Check the ingredients: A water-based foundation will last up to 12 months, oil-based will last up to 18 months. You may find you need two different shades of foundation each year (ed. note: I don’t wear foundation). Lipstick Up to four years, but if it smells rancid, throw it out, it’s spoiled. Extra tip: If you store lipstick in the refrigerator, it will last longer. Mascara This product expires the fastest: Throw out after three months. Nail Polish Up to 12 months, depending on the quality and how many times you apply it.”

- Vanguard - Fashion : Shelf lives: How long can you keep makeup?

Happy 30th birthday, Jon! Thursday May 31 10:53 AM ET Universal Studios is opening up a Harry Potter theme park in Florida complete with the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade village. “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” will open in late 2009 in Orlando, officials said Thursday. “The plans I’ve seen look incredibly exciting, and I don’t think fans of the books or films will be disappointed,” said author J.K. Rowling, who has been working with a creative team to make sure the park resembles the books and films.”

- Yahoo!
